Location & Lodging
RYLA is held annually at the Inn at Virginia Tech and Skelton Conference Center in beautiful Blacksburg VA. The Skelton Inn, named after past Rotary International President William Skelton, serves a rich blend of history and comfort at the heart of the Virginia Tech campus. Mr. Skelton served as president of Rotary International from 1983-84. He was a man who dedicated his life to community service both locally and internationally. It is quite fitting that the Skelton Inn plays host to the future leaders of tomorrow.
Lodging & Roommate Expectations
Students will stay overnight at the Skelton Inn in Blacksburg, VA. Rooms are hotel style, double occupancy with two double beds.
Students will be paired with another student from a different school. We understand this may create some anxiety with students, but past experience has shown this to be a tremendous benefit to the RYLA experience. Students gain a deeper perspective of all the elements of becoming a leader and in the end find this experience to be truly rewarding.
RYLA's focus on leadership, collaboration, and team building begins with the roommate experience; getting to know someone new who might have a different background. Rotary's commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion is focused on treating everyone with dignity and respect. The RYLA committee promises that safety, respect, and comfort is at the forefront of the RYLA experience. Rotary chaperones are always present to address all concerns during RYLA.
